Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant will perform dermatologic procedures, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance under the supervision of their Provider and Clinical Coordinator and Practice Manager This position will be responsible for excellent patient care, maintain and demonstrate the skills and techniques of patient care, and have an understanding and knowledge of dermatology procedures. This position should strive to create and maintain a relationship with each patient in their care. While also maintaining cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Escorts patients to examining rooms, takes detailed medical histories, and determines the reason for the visit and checks patient’s vital signs
- Presents patient history summary and alerts Provider to changes in the patient’s skin, elevated blood pressure, etc. Annotates patient charts with exam and treatment results.
- Duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing consent forms; assisting the physician in completing examinations and procedures; preparing surgical trays for procedures; ensuring all medications are drawn up as needed; providing wound care and suture removal instructions to patients
- Providing patient education and administering medications as ordered
- Ensuring patient follow-up phone calls are made regarding path/lab results and other necessary treatments; documenting all laboratory or pathology results in patients’ records
- Keeping all medical instruments, equipment, and station are clean
- Making sure all exam rooms are stocked with supplies
- Attends regular department staff meetings and in-service training.
- Must comply with OSHA standards regarding PPE (gowns, gloves, safety goggles) when performing surgical procedures and other general patient care
- Observes clinic policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- And any other duties as assigned

Travel
- After training is completed, may need to travel to another clinic to assist when needed
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and the successful completion of an accredited medical technology program or the equivalent training, education, and experience.
- ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized medical technology certification or categorical certification. (Preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
