POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

Professional

Working knowledge of Python and C#.

Experience with relational database design, ETL/ELT patterns, and data integration.

Microsoft Azure certifications, particularly DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer Associate) or AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate).

Experience with cloud data platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure DevOps).

Familiarity with healthcare data environments, particularly Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), the 340B Drug Pricing Program, or pharmacy systems (EnterpriseRx, McKesson).

Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, model integration, and data preparation for machine learning workflows.

Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD practices.

Experience Level

Entry Level – Mid Level (0–7 years of relevant experience).

The role requires enough experience to operate with significant autonomy on technical work — designing pipelines, optimizing SQL, integrating new data sources, and supporting AI/ML initiatives without close supervision. The existing team does not have the capacity to mentor a junior engineer through foundational technical skills.

The proposed compensation range of $75,000–$139,000 accommodates a wide band of entry-level to mid-level candidates.

The role would suit:

An experienced data engineer looking to apply their skills in healthcare.

A healthcare BI/SQL developer transitioning into a broader data engineering role.

A recent graduate from a related field with foundational engineering knowledge.

Reporting Structure

Individual contributor. Reports directly to the Business Intelligence Officer for personnel matters, including time off, performance management, and career development. Reports to the Lead Data Engineer for technical escalation, architectural decisions, and project-level coordination.

This role does not currently supervise other staff. Responsibilities are individual contributor in nature: the Data Engineer owns the technical work product (pipelines, applications, integrations, automations) rather than managing direct reports.

Physical/Environmental

Ability to interact with a computer screen for up to six hours at a time (visual acuity required).

Must have manual dexterity for use of keyboard. Ability to remain stationary for periods of up to four hours. Ability to communicate via phone, mail, and in person to resolve disputes, solve problems, etc.

Capacity to function in a sometimes stressful, multi-tasking environment
