Bartender – Contract Work
$20/hour
Summary: Contracted bartenders work under the direction of the hospitality department to provide high-quality beverage service for events happening at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
Key Responsibilities
1. Event Setup & Logistics
- Bar Preparation: Set up “satellite” or mobile bar stations, including arranging glassware, bottles, and bar tools
- Garnish & Prep: Prepare garnishes and ensure sufficient quantities of ice, mixers, and napkins are on hand.
- Inventory Tracking: Monitor stock levels throughout the event to prevent “running dry” and report consumption for post-event billing.
2. Beverage Service
- Mixology: Accurately prepare a variety of drinks, including classic cocktails, local craft beers, wine, and non-alcoholic “mocktails.”
- Signature Drinks: Master and serve event-specific signature cocktails with consistent presentation and flavor.
- Speed & Efficiency: Manage long lines and high-volume orders with a sense of urgency without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
3. Safety & Compliance
- ID Verification: Strictly enforce legal drinking age requirements by checking identification.
- Responsible Service: Monitor guest intoxication levels
- Sanitation: Maintain a clean workspace by washing glassware, wiping surfaces, and following health department guidelines.
4. Guest Experience
- Engagement: Provide friendly, polished service and offer recommendations based on guest preferences.
- Ambience: Act as a “mood-setter” for the event, maintaining a professional and upbeat demeanor.
