ALLERGY INJECTIONS
Allergy injections are given in Health Services as a special service to students. Students may come at any time during normal clinic hours for their allergy injections. There is no fee for this service.
Please follow the guidelines below for participating in our allergy injection program:
- Students are responsible for bringing in the allergy medication and documentation at the beginning of the semester.
- Serum will be kept at the Health Center in a regulated refrigerator and must be picked up by the student at the end of each semester.
- All allergy vials must be clearly marked with the student's name, contents, and expiration date.
- Single dose vials will not be administered.
- Sera will not be combined in a single syringe.
- First dose out of a new vial must be given by the student's private allergist.
Documentation from the student's allergist must include:
- Clear, legible instructions on physician office letterhead or documentation sheet
- Physician's name and phone number
- Written instructions including dosage adjustment orders for local reactions and missed doses
Students are to inform the clinical staff of the following before an injection is administered:
- Current medications, especially beta-blockers
- Cold or allergy symptoms including any current illness, fever, or wheezing
- Prolonged or delayed reaction from previous injection
- Pregnancy
After receiving an injection, students must wait at least 20 minutes at the Health Center and be reevaluated by a clinician prior to discharge.
