Hawk Safety Alert 2013-01

On March 27, 2013, just after midnight, a Monmouth University student parked his car on Second Ave. in Long Branch, across the street from the Pier Village Apartments. As he walked to the corner of Chelsea Ave. and Ocean Blvd., two cars pulled up and parked next to where he was walking. One car was a silver colored SUV and one car was a blue VW Jetta. Both had New Jersey license plates. Six to seven high school age athletic-looking black males got out of the vehicles and approached the student. One of the subjects punched the student knocking him to the ground. The student’s cell phone fell from his hand onto the ground as he fell. One of the assailants picked up the phone. All of the assailants then returned to their vehicles and fled the scene, traveling south on Ocean Blvd.

The Monmouth University Police Department is issuing this alert to make our students aware of the incident. The Long Branch Police Department reports there have been no similar incidents in the area. There have been no arrests at this point and they continue to investigate. If you have information relating to this case, please contact the Long Branch Police Department at 732-222-1000. Students are advised to be aware of their surroundings and use caution when in this area.
