Dear Campus Community:
It has been brought to the University’s attention that there are a number of offensive posts targeting members of the Monmouth University community circulating on social media and other platforms.
The University condemns hate speech, racism, and sexism in all forms, and we have taken swift action to investigate these reports and support our community members. Specifically, these reports have been referred immediately to various offices around campus, including the Office of Judicial Affairs, the Office of Equity & Diversity, and the Monmouth University Police Department. The Monmouth University Police Department is aggressively investigating these reports, and, pursuant to the Attorney General’s April 5, 2019 Revised Bias Incident Investigation Standards, has referred the matter to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office for additional review.
Monmouth University is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. When anyone breaks this commitment, we encourage everyone to report these incidents, while remembering you can do so both confidentially or anonymously. In addition, those impacted can also seek support from campus resources, including but not limited to Student Life, the Intercultural Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services.
On behalf of all of us here at Monmouth University, let me assure you: hate has no place on our campus, nothing posted on platforms can ever be fully anonymous, and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Patrick F. Leahy
President
