Doherty House

Description

Doherty House is the official residence of the president of Monmouth University. It is named in honor of former Board Chair Paul S. Doherty Jr. ’67 and his wife, Diane. The two-story building includes a general living area, dining room, kitchen, and library area for entertaining guests.

History

Construction of the structure was completed in 2006. Doherty House sits in the footprint of an earlier structure, built in the 1920s that was home to Monmouth University presidents beginning in 1983. The previous building at 10 Norwood Ave was constructed by Isaac and Lena Alpern, and later acquired by Herman and Nettie Levinson, who donated the house to then-Monmouth College in 1959.
