    The Race Card Project

    The Race Card Project: Asks you to share your opinions, beliefs, observations, and experiences on race and cultural diversity in a 6-word sentence.

    Michele Norris, creator of the Race Card Project, will give a keynote presentation, followed by 2 smaller group discussions.

  • J. Seward Johnson Sculptures

    Following an early career as a painter, Seward Johnson turned his talents to the medium of sculpture. Since then, more than 450 of Johnson’s life-size cast bronze figures have been featured in private collections and museums in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, as well as prominent places in the public realm such as Rockefeller Center, Pacific Place, Hong Kong, Les Halles in Paris, and Via Condotti in Rome. Seward Johnson is most widely known for his sculptures depicting people engaged in every day activities. Johnson’s desire to highlight the mundane in his Celebrating the Familiar sculpture series has brought a unique voice to the world of art in public spaces.

    Johnson is often recognized for his most dramatic work — and also his largest — the 70’ aluminum giant entitled The Awakening. This sculpture was selected for the International Sculpture Conference & Exhibition and is currently sited along the Potomac River at National Harbor in Washington, DC. This work was profiled in LIFE magazine, Time Magazine and has become a “must see” destination in the nation’s capitol. In recent years, Seward Johnson’s monumental scale sculptures have captured the attention of the international media and a global audience. Among these are the 26 foot tall Forever Marilyn with her skirt blowing upwards defying the stainless steel and aluminum materials. Also, the iconic “kiss” sculpture depicting the moment in Times Square when the sailor and nurse embraced in celebration of the conclusion of World War II.

  • Nurse Practitioner Skills Boot Camp

    Step up for the “Boot Camp” at Monmouth University

    – an immersion program for Nurse Practitioners providing specialized training in key areas. The hands-on experience will be facilitated by content experts who will share knowledge, tips and techniques for practice. The boot camp is suitable for individuals who would like to update their knowledge and/or who are new to the role.

    Participants will complete 2 modules daily – selecting 4 out of the 5 modules listed below. Each day will conclude with a 1.5 hour pharmacology update.

    • X-Ray Interpretation
    • EKG Assessment
    • Care of Common Orthopedic Injuries and Splinting Basics
    • Suturing and Wound Closure
    • Clinical Decision Making – Interpreting and Integrating Diagnostics

    $400/$350 MU students and alumni – before May 15

  • Sexual Assault Examination Across the Lifespan – Workshop

    Sexual Assault Examination Across the Lifespan

    This program is designed for the RN with at least 2 years recent clinical experience desiring to obtain the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to provide effective health care and services to victims of sexual assault. Content will include the biological, psychological, social and medico-legal dynamics of sexual assault including care of both male and female survivors across the lifespan.

    Topics will include: assessment and evaluation of the adult, adolescent, pediatric survivor of sexual assault through the lifespan; role of the SANE in caring for sexual assault and abuse victims across the lifespan; nursing management of the sexually assaulted patient; evidence collection and analysis; exam documentation; clinical skill demonstrations; interdisciplinary collaboration; NJ laws and regulations; and an overview of the criminal justice system including tips on testifying.

    Substitute Nurses are needed in many school districts! This class is designed to present an overview of the responsibilities of the Substitute School Nurse. The Instructors will introduce key areas specific to the care of the child in the school setting.

    This program will provide 5.5 contact hours for nurses.

    • Describe emergency protocols (epi-pen, glucagon, & nebulizer)

  • Visiting Writers: The Breakbeat Poets

    Hip-Hop is the largest youth culture in the history of the planet rock. It has produced generations of artists who have revolutionized their genre(s) by applying the aesthetic innovations of the culture.

    The BreakBeat Poets features 78 poets, born somewhere between 1961-1999, All-City and Coast-to-Coast, who are creating the next and now movement(s) in American letters. This is the first poetry anthology by and for the Hip-Hop generation. It is for people who love Hip-Hop, for fans of the culture, for people who’ve never read a poem, for people who thought poems were only something done by dead white dudes who got lost in a forest, and for poetry heads. This anthology is meant to expand the idea of who a poet is and what a poem is for.

    The BreakBeat Poets are the scribes recording and remixing a fuller spectrum of experience of what it means to be alive in this moment. The BreakBeat Poets are a break with the past and an honoring of the tradition(s), an undeniable body expanding the canon for the fresher.
