    After decades of silence, Robyn Crawford, close friend, collaborator, and confidante of Whitney Houston, shares her story.

    Whitney Houston is as big a superstar as the music business has ever known. She exploded on the scene in 1985 with her debut album and spent the next two decades dominating the charts and capturing the hearts of fans around the world. One person was there by her side through it all—her best friend, Robyn Crawford.

    Since Whitney’s death in 2012, Robyn has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures, and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart. Now, for the first time ever, Crawford opens up in her new memoir, A Song for You.

    The population of Atlantic menhaden (bunker) is at an all-time low. The loss of menhaden spells disaster for striped bass, tuna, bluefish, weakfish, osprey, whales, birds, and marine mammals. Captain Paul Eidman, founder of Menhaden Defenders, discusses the importance of rebuilding this stock. If we want to protect our game fish and marine mammals, we must protect their food! Come learn what you can do to ensure these fish remain abundant in our coastal waters.

  • Monmouth University Award for Communication Excellence (MACE) Award

    Presentation of this year’s Monmouth Award for Communication Excellence (MACE) will be to film producers/directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The event includes a discussion about their award-winning filmmaking techniques moderated by Monmouth University Professor Rob Scott.

    A cocktail reception preceding the presentation will be held at 6 p.m. in the Gallery of Pollak Theatre.

    The award presentation and program will be held in Pollak Theatre.

    About the Honorees:

    Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the prolific writing and directing duo behind some of today’s most successful films, including, The Lego Movie, 21 & 22 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. In 2014, the duo saw incredible success at the box office and were the only writers/directors with two films ranked among the top highest grossing features of the year. Up next for film, the duo will be directing the highly anticipated untitled Star Wars Anthology. Focusing on a young Han Solo, the feature is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date and will be written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.

  • J. Seward Johnson Sculptures

    Following an early career as a painter, Seward Johnson turned his talents to the medium of sculpture. Since then, more than 450 of Johnson’s life-size cast bronze figures have been featured in private collections and museums in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, as well as prominent places in the public realm such as Rockefeller Center, Pacific Place, Hong Kong, Les Halles in Paris, and Via Condotti in Rome. Seward Johnson is most widely known for his sculptures depicting people engaged in every day activities. Johnson’s desire to highlight the mundane in his Celebrating the Familiar sculpture series has brought a unique voice to the world of art in public spaces.

    Johnson is often recognized for his most dramatic work — and also his largest — the 70’ aluminum giant entitled The Awakening. This sculpture was selected for the International Sculpture Conference & Exhibition and is currently sited along the Potomac River at National Harbor in Washington, DC. This work was profiled in LIFE magazine, Time Magazine and has become a “must see” destination in the nation’s capitol. In recent years, Seward Johnson’s monumental scale sculptures have captured the attention of the international media and a global audience. Among these are the 26 foot tall Forever Marilyn with her skirt blowing upwards defying the stainless steel and aluminum materials. Also, the iconic “kiss” sculpture depicting the moment in Times Square when the sailor and nurse embraced in celebration of the conclusion of World War II.

    Puccini’s enduring favorite, starring an exceptional trio of singing actors in the leading roles, features acclaimed American soprano Patricia Racette as the ultimate diva, Floria Tosca, in Luc Bondy’s production. French tenor Roberto Alagna sings Tosca’s lover, the painter Cavaradossi, and Georgian baritone George Gagnidze is the corrupt, lustful Scarpia. Italian maestro Riccardo Frizza conducts Puccini’s sweeping, dramatic tale of murder, lust, and political intrigue.
