Basic Needs Assistance

Mental Health Support

Students can schedule an appointment with a clinical counselor with Counseling and Prevention Services located on the 3rd floor of the Student Center. Students can schedule individual appointments by filling out the Student Support Self-Referral, stopping into the office, or calling 732-571-7517.

While most initial sessions are scheduled within 3-5 business days of the request, appointment availability is not guaranteed, and there may be a delay during peak utilization times. If a student experiences a mental health emergency before connecting with a counselor, they are to follow the Crisis Intervention protocol below.

In the case of an emergent psychiatric crisis, the student may be directed to an Emergency Department for an immediate evaluation. CPS abides by MU’s Student Medical and Mental Health Emergency Policy.

If there are concerns regarding imminent safety, please contact MUPD at 732-571-4444 and if you are off-campus, please dial 988 for the Crisis Lifeline or 911 for emergency services.

Food Insecurity Assistance

To combat food insecurity at Monmouth, students can visit the Nest Food Pantry, request meal swipes, grocery gift cards, and request assistance when applying for SNAP benefits. There are a number of local agencies that students can connect with such as Fulfill Food Bank, located in Monmouth County. Please understand we have limited resources for this program and it is intended for students experiencing food insecurity.

The Nest Food Pantry

The Nest Food Pantry was created by the Student Government Association (SGA) to support Monmouth students without meal plans. Students can visit the Nest housed on the lower level of the Student Center during its operating hours and if closed, students can stop by the Office of Student Engagement, located on the 2nd floor of the Student Center, between 9am-5pm to gain access.

Meal Swipe Request

In partnership with Gourmet Dining, Monmouth University has been able to purchase a limited number of meal swipes as part of OSHE’s Hunger Free Campus Grant. Students can fill out the Student Support Self-Referral form to request meal swipes. This is not intended to be utilized to replace a student meal plan nor for ongoing need.

Students with existing meal plans are ineligible to request swipes. Meal swipes will be distributed based on student need with a maximum limit of 10 meal swipes distributed per student request each semester.

Eligibility:

  • Must be currently enrolled at Monmouth University
  • Cannot have an existing meal plan
  • Indicate lack of food resources available

These donated Meal Swipes can be used at the following locations: Magill Dining Hall, the Food Court, and even through Mobile Ordering!

There are a limited number of donated meals provided each semester and if all donated meals have been distributed, please be sure to visit Fulfill Food Bank for more information on resources.

Grocery Gift Card Request

Students may also request to receive a grocery gift card by filling out the Student Support Self-Referral. Gift cards can be distributed in $50 increments with a maximum of $100 per request. Students with existing meal plans are ineligible to receive grocery gift cards with the exception of extenuating circumstances.

NJ SNAP Benefits

Students with ongoing needs can learn more about applying for NJ SNAP benefits. NJ SNAP, formerly Food Stamps, is New Jersey’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that can help low-income families buy the groceries they need to eat healthy.

Check the NJ SNAP website for eligibility requirements.
