The Program Coordinator plays an integral role in creating a fantastic summer camp experience for both campers and counseling staff at TFC. The Program Coordinator is responsible for supervising the Program Instructors in several program areas at camp. The Program Coordinator serves as a member of the Summer Leadership Team and is supervised by the Program Supervisor. As a part of the Leadership Team, they provide input on campers, staff, camp activities, and general camp wide issues in weekly meetings. The Program Coordinataor attends Leadership Orientation and present sessions for the All Camp Orientation.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop and coordinate weekly session schedules.
- Coordinate weekly campouts and rainy-day schedules.
- Assist Program Instructors in the planning and implementation of their daily programs as needed including evening programs; observe and review with Program Instructors at least once each week; lead weekly program staff meetings.
- Monitor daily staff-camper interactions and lead activities as needed.
- Assist with summer staff orientation, meetings and in-services.
- Serve as a program resource for all staff and assist with end-of-session cabin meetings.
- Help monitor direct care of campers and instruct staff as needed.
- Assist cabins with direct care and camper behavioral concerns as needed.
- Monitor proper staff use of camp equipment, as well as maintain and upkeep equipment as needed.
- Monitor cleanliness of program areas and required program paperwork.
- Work with Program Supervisor on program supply ordering, inventory, and needs.
- Maintain positive attitude and good working relations with every member of the staff.
- Work with camp leadership team as a cohesive unit to effectively and efficiently run summer camp; participate in weekly (and as-needed) leadership meetings.
- Notify Program Supervisor, Head Counselor or Camp Director of any staff concerns as they arise.
- Serve as emergency transportation as needed.
- Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission and vision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule & Hours:
- Seasonal position that occurs during the summer camp program.
- Be willing to work flexible hours, which include nights and weekends.
- Stays in lodge/tents/cabins on site.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 21 years of age.
- 1 year post-secondary education or 2 years supervisory experience.
- 1-3 years of related experience working with youth or individuals with disabilities.
- Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Must be able to spend majority of the time outdoors and tolerate a variety of weather conditions.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Manage time and multiple priorities, meets deadlines.
- Exercise professional judgement in making decisions.
- Complete assigned tasks in an efficient and effective manner.
- Must be able to participate in games, sports, and physical activities including water-based games and activities.
- Adhere to all applicable safety and health policies and procedures.
- Able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
- Experience in working with people with disabilities highly preferred.
- Certification in high/low ropes course or ability to attain preferred.
- Previous experience at a recreational facility preferred.
- CPR and first aid certification or ability to attain required.
- Waterfront lifeguard certification or ability to attain preferred.
Knowledge Requirements:
- Strong computer and software applications (MS Office, Camp Wise).
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable and meets requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
