About Notre Dame Mission Volunteers AmeriCorps (NDMV)

NDMVA teams work with local partners to increase access to education and other essential social services. By collaborating with local organizations, NDMVA aims to make a lasting impression on the lives of individuals and families in the region. As a member, you will serve at Freedom 4 Youth for 10.5 months, August-June, part-time, providing essential support to students.

About Freedom 4 Youth

Freedom 4 Youth’s mission is to uplift and empower youth that are involved in or impacted by the criminal legal system through healing-centered, restorative, and youth-led solutions. Through legal advocacy, diversion, culturally responsive programs, and case management support, we disrupt cycles of criminalization and address the root cause of substance use—creating real pathways to accountability, healing, long-term stability, and transformative systems change.

Position Duties:

  • Encourage school engagement among K-12 students by supporting in small group and individual academic support
  • Supporting 9-12 students with small group and one on one support
  • In collaboration with staff and volunteers leading lessons to 9-12 grade students
  • Supporting 6-12 grade students with homework and tutoring help
  • Assisting with After school enrichment activities for 6-12 grade students
  • Support staff with supervision of students in small and large groups
  • Conduct pre- and post-surveys for tracking the academic engagement performance measure
  • Ensure a healthy learning environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of students
  • Along with staff, ensure that planned activities, hygiene and safety standards have been followed
  • Collaborate with Site Supervisor to address challenges and advance toward goals
  • Maintain an open channel of communication with program staff and select administrative staff
  • Operate in a collaborative work environment
  • Attend trainings and participate in meetings as necessary.
  • Provide communications which are culturally sensitive and within the scope of authorized client contact.
  • Provide timely responses to assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with Site Supervisor and Site Manager.
