The Management Trainee Program is geared toward recently graduated or soon-to-be graduating seniors. This 24-week, hands-on job experience offers the opportunity for each Trainee to become part of a team, expand upon their experience, actively participate in all areas of Dayton Freight’s operations, as well as gain knowledge of our Company, culture, and the Transportation Industry. Additionally, the program educates each individual on future-based leadership skills so that upon completion of the 24-weeks, they are confident and competent to take on a management position within our Company.

Primary Function:

Actively participate and contribute to the supervision and management of the operation by developing and learning the necessary skills and knowledge to be a successful leader at Dayton Freight Lines.

Principal Duties:

  • Learn, understand, and actively participate in all areas of Dayton Freight Lines Operation during the 24-week hands-on training period
  • Develop leadership skills by actively participating in discipline, performance evaluations, analyzing staffing levels, and handling employee complaints and grievances as needed
  • Complete the duties and tasks assigned to various positions, as needed, including but not limited to:
    • Supervisor
    • Customer Service Representative
    • Dock Worker
  • Gain knowledge of our Company, culture, and the transportation industry
  • Coordinate assignments and scheduling of dock and driver personnel as needed
  • Analyze weight and size of freight to properly project and load trailers in a timely, efficient, and safe manner
  • Make recommendations for process improvements
  • Acquire future-based leadership skills so that upon completion of the 24-weeks, Trainee is confident and competent to take on management level positions and responsibilities
  • Assist in training, development, and evaluation of employee work performance and recommend or initiate personnel records documentation
  • Promotion to leadership position upon completion of 24-week training

 

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
  • Must be willing to relocate within the Midwest (see image on website for locations)
  • Must be willing to work a rotation of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Fluent in English
