Job Summary: 

Atlas is seeking a motivated IT Systems Intern to support day-to-day technology operations and gain real-world experience in a manufacturing environment. The intern will assist with Tier 1 help desk support, Active Directory administration, Microsoft 365 management, network troubleshooting, cybersecurity initiatives, and hardware deployment. This position provides valuable exposure to enterprise IT systems while offering opportunities to contribute to process improvements, technology projects, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Tier 1 IT Help Desk

  • End-user support – Troubleshoot hardware/software issues for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices; password resets, account lockouts, and basic application errors.
  • Onboarding/offboarding – Provision new user accounts, equipment, and access; deprovision and recover assets when employees leave.
  • Work with MSP to complete outstanding orders

Active Directory (AD) Cleanup & Administration

  • User & group management – Create, modify, and disable accounts; organize security and distribution groups.
  • OU structure & hygiene – Audit and clean up stale accounts, unused groups, and disabled objects; maintain a logical Organizational Unit structure.
  • Group Policy  – Understand and apply existing GPOs; assist in reviewing policies for redundancy or conflicts.

Microsoft 365 / O365 Environment

  • Admin center basics – Manage licenses, users, and groups via the M365 admin center.
  • Exchange Online – Handle mailboxes, shared mailboxes, distribution lists, and basic mail-flow/quarantine issues.
  • Teams & SharePoint – Support collaboration tools, manage permissions, and assist with file/site access.
  • Security & compliance – Assist with MFA enforcement, conditional access, and reviewing sign-in/audit logs.

Printers & Peripherals

  • Deployment & drivers – Install, map, and configure network and local printers; manage print servers and queues.
  • Troubleshooting – Resolve connectivity, driver, and hardware faults; manage consumables and basic maintenance.

 

Networking

  • Fundamentals – Understand TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and subnetting at a working level.
  • Connectivity troubleshooting – Diagnose wired/wireless issues using ping, tracert, ipconfig, and similar tools.
  • Hardware familiarity – Identify and assist with switches, routers, access points, and firewalls; document network layout.

Cybersecurity

  • Endpoint protection – Monitor and maintain antivirus/EDR agents; respond to alerts under supervision.
  • Patch management – Assist with OS and software updates across endpoints and servers.
  • Phishing & awareness – Identify and report suspicious emails; support user security-awareness efforts.
  • Access control – Apply least-privilege principles; assist with MFA, password policy, and account security reviews.

 

Education & Experience: 

– High School Diploma or GED (required).

Compensation Range:

$25-$28/hr
