About First Tee – West Michigan

First Tee – West Michigan is dedicated to empowering youth through golf and character education. Established in 2011, our chapter serves over 2,300 participants across West Michigan. We introduce kids and teens (ages 7–17) to the game of golf while instilling life-enhancing values like honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship. Our primary focus is building strong, positive relationships and reaching at-risk and disadvantaged youth in our local communities.

Role Overview

As a Coaching Intern in Holland, MI, you will work directly under the Program Coordinator to lead weekly golf and life-skills classes for youth. You will help create a welcoming, engaging environment where participants can build character, develop confidence, and learn the fundamentals of golf.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Golf Classes: Run engaging golf instructional sessions 5 times per week for youth participants.

Execute Lesson Plans: Deliver structured plans combining golf skill development with First Tee’s core life lessons.

Parent Communication: Maintain clear, direct communication with parents both in person and over the phone.

Volunteer Engagement: Provide feedback and guidance to teenage peer mentors and gather input from adult volunteers.

Equipment Management: Organize and maintain instructional equipment across all Holland program locations.

Additional Duties: Support other organizational efforts as requested by the Program Communications Coordinator.

Qualifications

Age & Education: 18+ years old with a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Passionate About Youth: A genuine love for mentoring and working with kids and teens ages 7–17.

Communication Skills: Comfortable speaking in front of groups and connecting with new people.

Organizational Ability: Strong attention to detail, high integrity, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

Golf & Sports Knowledge: Enthusiasm for golf and sports with basic knowledge of the game.

Flexibility: Availability during weekdays and some evenings/occasional Saturdays.
