Welcome to Off-Campus and Commuter Services
In my role as the Director of Off-Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS), I meet with and advise many of our off-campus and commuter students every year. Some of the students' requests can be as simple as helping them secure a new parking decal or as involved as mediating a tenant/landlord dispute. Whatever the situation, question, or concern may be, I hope that you make use of the programs and resources offered by OCCS.
When it comes to identifying Monmouth University’s off-campus and commuter student population, I believe that it’s important to recognize that one size does not fit all. Commuter students are a diverse population that can include traditional and non-traditional students; full and part-time students; graduate and non-matriculating students; as well as students commuting from home and/or students who are sharing an off-campus rental.
In its simplest form, OCCS tries to accomplish two main goals every year. The first is to serve as an advocate and central resource for commuter students who are trying to navigate the many campus programs and services. OCCS promotes the numerous University resources that are available to our commuter students and encourage them to develop out-of-class connections to the extra-curricular opportunities on campus.
The second goal for OCCS is to provide guidance and assistance to students who are interested in exploring the option of living off-campus. OCCS works hand-in-hand with Monmouth students, community officials, as well as neighbors to highlight tenant rights and responsibilities, off-campus housing options/listings, and to mediate issues involving students and their neighbors, the community, and landlords.
Whether you live at home or live off-campus I encourage you to take a few minutes to explore the information found on the OCCS web site. If you are unable to find an answer to your question online, please feel free to contact OCCS by phone at 732-263-5651, or send an e-mail to: occs@monmouth.edu. You also can stop by the office which is located on the second floor of the Rebecca Stafford Student Center, within the Division of Student Services and Community Services. I will be happy to assist you.
Sincerely,
Vaughn Clay
Director, Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services
