The fundamental purposes of Monmouth University include fostering a love of learning, enabling our graduates to enjoy a higher quality of life, and leading them to contribute to the greater health and well-being of all communities, human and natural. A Monmouth University undergraduate education provides an understanding of the world in which we live; the skills and knowledge needed to pursue further education and a career; an awareness of civic responsibility, including service and leadership in the public interest; and the ability to engage in a lifetime of learning.
Pursuant to these goals, Monmouth University students develop an understanding of the commonality and diversity of human experiences from the study of materials in one or more of the courses designated Cross-Cultural. The cross-cultural courses are explicitly designed to enhance a student’s awareness of one or more non-English-speaking cultures through such topics as language, literature, history, values, social relationships and institutions, and ideas and beliefs.
A current listing of cross-cultural courses offered by semester can be accessed through WebAdvisor. From the WEBstudent menu, select Sections Offered by Term, select the semester of interest (i.e., 08/FA), and select the course code of “CC” or “CC1.”
Please note that students may elect to satisfy the cross-cultural requirement by successfully completing six credits of foreign language, all in the same language.
