Britney R. Dupuis, of Freehold NJ, a communication major at Monmouth University won a “Promising Scholar” award at the 2012 New Jersey Women’s and Gender Studies Undergraduate Research Colloquium at Rider University on Friday, April 13. Her winning paper, written in Professor Jennifer Shamrock’s class, is titled “Societal Stereotypes and the Hindering Effects on Gender Identity.” She presented the paper at a panel focusing on “Gender as Memoir” at the Colloquium.
In addition, Psychology majors Amanda Divita, Chelsee Bower, and Maria Sciandra presented their research paper “The Impact of Implicit Color Labels on Preschool Children’s Interest” at the conference.
Chair of the Psychology Department, Dr. Janice C. Stapley, moderated a panel on “Media Representations of Women and Femininity,” an area of Scholarship in which she has both presented papers and published.
