Interim Dean Mathbor and Prof. Sarsar Co-Edit JSAMES Special Issue

Journal of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies

Golam Mathbor, Ph.D., interim dean and professor in the School of Social Work, and Saliba Sarsar, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science and Sociology and associate editor of the Journal of South Asian and Middle East Studies (JSAMES), recently co-edited a special issue of JSAMES.

The Spring/Summer 2025 edition features eight authored and co-authored articles with a special focus on Bangladesh. Topics range from political connections and economic interests between Bangladesh and the Middle East to the plight of migrant workers and marginalized communities, climate induced displacement, the challenges of the COVID-19 outbreak, and gender matters.

Mathbor and Sarsar hope the analyses will contribute to the scholarship on Bangladesh and help guide policy toward continued progress both within the country and regions where Bangladeshi workers are earning a living, particularly in the Middle East.

JSAMES is a quarterly journal published by Villanova University that produces scholarship on the countries in South and Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
