  • Rings, Rashes, Lumps, and Bumps: Skin Disorders in the School Age Child

    Designed for the School Nurse or Pediatric Nurse, this workshop will cover assessment techniques, physical findings and treatment options for common skin disorders. The school health office is often the first place that a child will present with a wound, a lesion, rash, or an itch. The School Nurse’s assessment skills will determine whether the child returns to class or for further evaluation and treatment. Knowledge of skin disorders and diseases can help to ensure that a child receives appropriate care and can reduce the spread of diseases with the early implementation of infection control strategies.

    This program will provide 3 contact hours for nurses.

    Cost: $80/$70 for MU Students & Alumni (A light dinner is included in the program fee)

    Join Monmouth University’s clubs and organizations from 12 – 2 p.m. for an afternoon of Halloween trick-or-treating, activities, and games! Paint a pumpkin to take home, enjoy games and activities with spooky prizes, and visit over 40 trunks sponsored by Monmouth’s Fraternity & Sorority Life and Student Organizations! Trunk-or-Treat is free, open to the public, and hosted by the First Year Service Project. In the event of rain, the event will be held in Boylan Gymnasium in the OceanFirst Bank Center.

    Please enter campus from Larchwood Ave. and park in the large lot there. You should then look for signage and balloons directing you to the correct entrance for the event.

  • Free STEM Workshop for Girls in 4th to 8th Grades

    Monmouth University’s Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering (CSSE), in partnership with Random Hacks of Kindness, Jr (RHoKJr), presents a free STEM workshop for girls in grades 4th through 8th on Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in Edison Hall Room 201.

    Girls will have the opportunity to team up as problem solvers and innovators to develop Smartphone app prototypes to benefit local nonprofit organizations. Computer science mentors, drawn from current CSSE students, will teach the girls how to “code for a cause” as they work with representatives from local non-profits such as STEAMpark, Lunch Break, and Coastal Communities Family Success Center.

  • Governor Richard J. Codey to Speak at Current Topics in Counseling Conference

    Monmouth University’s 2017-2018 Public Servant-in-Residence, former NJ Governor Richard J. Codey, will be speaking at the Current Topics in Counseling Conference

    Richard J. Codey - LectureThe former governor’s session will run from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall Auditorium and is part of the Current Topics in Counseling Conference, a full-day event facilitated by the Department of Professional Counseling’s Counseling Alumni Connection.

    Governor Codey’s talk, Mental Health and Public Policy, will focus on how he became interested in making mental health a focal point of his public service. This includes stories of going undercover in psychiatric institutions and nursing facilities, and doing frequent unannounced inspections of boarding homes, both of which exposed the poor treatment of patients. Governor Codey and his wife have also been open about their struggles with post-partum depression. These varied experiences led him to pass legislation which made improvements in mental health public policy.

    Attendees can participate in Q&A following the talk. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

    This presentation is open to the public, and for those attending the conference this session is included with registration. A separate RSVP is not required for Governor Codey’s session.

  • Holiday Bazaar

    Monmouth University will host its Annual Holiday Bazaar on Tuesday, December 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Rebecca Stafford Student Center, Anacon Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

    Local venders will be selling a variety of fun and unique products including jewelry, home goods, clothing, cookware and much more.

    The event is sponsored by the Global Experience Program, Monmouth University students who will be spending their winter, spring break or summer breaks volunteering in Haiti, Guatemala, or Nicaragua to aid the under-privileged. Proceeds from vendor table rentals will help support travel expenses for the students.
