  • Laurence Juber

    Fusing folk, jazz, pop and classical styles, Two-time GRAMMY winner Laurence Juber creates a multifaceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument. Lead guitarist for Paul McCartney’s Wings, Juber is a world-class guitar virtuoso solo artist, composer and arranger. Laurence Juber has released 18 critically acclaimed solo albums, including Guitarist and PCH. His solo CD, Pop Goes Guitar, includes the arrangement of Stand By Me that was heard nationally in the ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ commercial. His last release, Wooden Horses, showcases LJ’s compositions for solo guitar, and his latest CD is LJ Plays The Beatles Vol.2, a follow-up to Vol 1 which is one of Acoustic Guitar Magazine’s all-time Top Ten acoustic albums. Juber is featured on the CD Poppin’ Guitars, a tribute to the music of the Sherman Brothers, and can be seen in the documentary film, The Brothers, about those celebrated Disney composers.

    As a studio musician, his playing can be currently heard on ABC Family channel’s hit show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Juber has also co-composed the soundtrack of the upcoming Blizzard Entertainment video game Diablo 3 and crafted the score to the recent NBC Dateline documentary “Children Of The Harvest.” His music is also featured in the Ken Burns documentary “The Tenth Inning.”

    The performance will be followed by Q&A from Monmouth’s Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Kenneth Womack.

    There will also be a Guitar Workshop with Laurence Juber in Woods Theatre at 2 PM FREE for concert ticketholders and Monmouth University Students.

  • Rosanne Cash with John Leventhal

    Beloved singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash will play a concert featuring music from her acclaimed 2014 album The River & the Thread which garnered 3 Grammy awards in 2015. The recording includes eleven original songs written by Cash and her longtime collaborator—and husband—John Leventhal, who also served as producer, arranger, and guitarist. The River & the Thread evokes the American South’s rich landscape—physical, musical, and emotional—and examines the indelible impressions it’s made on our collective culture and on Cash, who was born in Memphis, Tennessee. The songs portray a multigenerational cast of characters—from a Civil War soldier off to fight in Virginia, to a New Deal-era farmer in Arkansas, to a present-day couple in Alabama. While Cash and Leventhal were inspired by the many musical styles associated with the South—Delta blues, gospel, Appalachian folk, country, rock, and others—the resulting collection of songs is contemporary. Cash, who has just been inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, has recorded fifteen albums and has charted twenty-one top forty country singles, eleven of which reached number one. A Chicago Tribune reviewer describes Composed, her 2010 memoir, as “one of the best accounts of an American life you will likely ever read.”

  • Arlo Guthrie

    On the heels of the sold-out Alice’s Restaurant 50th Anniversary Tour, Arlo Guthrie plunges into another musical trip certain to be a flashback inducing, mind-expanding show. For the Running Down The Road Tour, Arlo will again hit the road with a full band to fully embody the best of Guthrie’s catalogue from the late sixties and early seventies. Featuring the most outstanding cuts from Arlo (1968), Running Down The Road (1969), Washington County (1970) along with others, this tour exemplifies the sound that shaped a generation. Guthrie’s latest tour promises to take the audience back to the most remarkable, far-out era.

    Curated by the GRAMMY Museum, in cooperation with Daniel Kramer, Daniel Kramer: Photographs of Bob Dylan features more than 40 of Kramer’s photographs from his time on tour with Dylan in 1964 and 1965. Kramer’s photographs are a striking, intimate account of the folk singer’s metamorphosis into a rock star. This photographic “backstage view” of the singer/songwriter showcases key moments in Dylan’s musical career during one of the most dynamic periods in American history. These seminal pictures of Dylan not only revealed the rising young star to international audiences, but set a standard by which all other rock portraits would be judged.

  • Sweet Honey in the Rock

    With a new album #LoveInEvolution released early this year, Grammy Award-winning female African-American a cappella group founded by Bernice Johnson Reagon in 1973, endlessly continues to evolve and cultivate the rich textures of African American musical traditions. Currently consisting of members Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, ASL interpreter Shirley Childress, and featured musician Romeir Mendez on upright acoustic bass and electric bass, the group possesses a stunning vocal prowess that captures the complex sounds of blues, spirituals, traditional gospel hymns, rap, reggae, African chants, hip hop, ancient lullabies, and jazz improvisation. The group’s collective voice, often accompanied by hand percussion instruments and bass, produces a sound filled with soulful harmonies and intricate rhythms. When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. Today that legacy continues as original members Raybon and Mike McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career. Shenandoah has recorded nine studio albums (3 certified gold) and placed 26 singles on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. The boys from Muscle Shoals have left a potent legacy at country radio with over a dozen hit records.
