An annual holiday tradition, the ever lovable and charismatic Father Alphonse Stevenson returns to conduct the Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea for their 28th concert of carols and seasonal favorites. There’s simply no better way to start the holiday season than to spend a special evening with Father Alphonse, his 42-piece orchestra and distinguished vocalists as he provides humorous and personal anecdotes amidst a program of holiday classics and carols.

     

  • Matt O’Ree Band

    Over the past few years, The Matt O’Ree Band has done what most area bands do. They’ve played their shows, developed their sound, released their records and very quietly built a massive fan base in the process.

    What makes this band different from all the others is that their local fan base includes Bruce Springsteen, David Bryan and Steve Cropper, all of whom have volunteered to perform on the band’s latest album, “Brotherhood”.

    Prior to Brotherhood’s release, Matt’s talent was recognized globally when he got the nod to join rock legends Bon Jovi as their guitarist/backing vocalist on their 2015 stadium tour of the Far East.

    In addition to being a creative songwriter, Matt was recognized by the industry as a guitar great after winning a national guitar contest hosted by BB King and John Mayer through Guitar Center and Guitar World Magazine. Matt beat out over 4,000 competitors to win the grand prize which consisted of multiple guitars, an endorsement from Gibson, a shopping spree at Guitar Center and a new car from Scion. This major accomplishment was the spark that jump started his career and gave his band momentum for their future success.

    Growing up on influencers ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rory Gallagher, ZZ Top, Robin Trower, Joe Walsh and Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Matt O’Ree Band has taken all these diverse elements and forged a new iron.

    The band takes their fans on a ride that hasn’t been heard or seen at this level since the ’70s. Their live show is like revisiting a Zeppelin concert at the Garden, and with Scott Bennert on bass, John Hummel on drums, Layonne Holmes and Eryn Shewell laying down angelically gutsy backing vocals, and keyboard duties brilliantly shared by Matt Wade and Dave Archer, Matt and company have built a foundation that can hold up the biggest house on the block.

    Experience the enduring power and popularity of American folk music with Lonesome Traveler, the stirring concert version of the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical  that the New York Times called “illuminating…revelatory…achingly beautiful.”  The show celebrates the music of great folk artists including Woody Guthrie,  Lead Belly, Pete Seeger and the Weavers, The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Crosby Stills & Nash and more, plus a special tribute to Leonard Cohen.

    Charismatic young singers and multi-instrumentalists return us to a time when music brought us together – when it changed us. This unforgettable concert event features patriotic songs, church hymns, union anthems and songs of protest, taking us from the 1920s to the 1970s– from the front porches of Appalachia to the nightclubs of San Francisco and New York – from the festival stages of Newport to the sound stages of Los Angeles.  Songs like: “If I Had a Hammer,“ “Puff The Magic Dragon,” “This Land is Your Land,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “Blowin in the Wind”, “The Times They are a Changing”,  “Turn, Turn Turn”, and “Hallelujah”.

    Dance meets film meets virtual reality: Bridgman|Packer Dance will present Voyeur, their highly acclaimed work that received a 2017 New York Dance and Performance Award (The Bessies). Featuring choreographer/performers Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer’s innovative work in “Video Partnering”—the integration of live performance and video technology— Voyeur is inspired by artist Edward Hopper’s world of color, light, perspective, and under-the-surface eroticism. Fragmented moments of private lives are witnessed through windows and doorways. As the performers merge and collide with the video imagery, the presence of a seen or unseen viewer lies at the heart of Voyeur. Voyeur will be paired with other work from Bridgman|Packer Dance’s repertory.

    Art Bridgman and Myrna Packer, collaborators in choreography and performance and Co-Artistic Directors of Bridgman|Packer Dance, are known for their work integrating live performance and video technology.  They were awarded a 2017 New York and Performance Award for Outstanding Production (The Bessies).  In New York City they have been presented by Lincoln Center, City Center’s Fall for Dance Festival, 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Festival, Dance Theater Workshop (now New York Live Arts), Central Park Summerstage, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and The Sheen Center.

    The 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship awarded to Bridgman and Packer was the first in the history of the Guggenheim Foundation to be given to two individuals for their collaborative work. They are also recipients of National Endowment for the Arts Grants (2007-2017), a National Dance Project Touring Award, four National Performance Network’s Creation Fund Awards, and grants from New England Foundation for the Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, and New York State Council for the Arts. Their international touring has been supported by USArtists International, the Performing Americas Project, American Dance Abroad, the National Performance Network, and La Red de Promotores CentroAmericana y El Caribe.

    Bridgman|Packer Dance has toured throughout the USA  performing at festivals and art centers, including Spoleto Festival USA, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Florida Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, ICA Boston, Dance St. Louis, and Philadelphia’s Annenberg Center. They have appeared abroad in Europe, Asia, The Middle East, and Central America in festivals including Beirut Spring Festival, Munich International Dance Festival, Festival Internacional de Artes Escenicas (Panama), Kintetsu Theater (Osaka, Japan), Festival Internacional Chihuahua (Mexico), New Baltic Dance Festival (Lithuania), and Tancforum (Budapest).

    They were chosen as “Best of 2016” in The Village Voice and Huggington Post and “Best Dance in 2017” by TheaterJones.com.

    Lee Rocker and the Stray Cats sold more than 10 million records, garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum records worldwide, and were music video pioneers of the MTV.  The Stray Cat’s worldwide mega hits “Stray Cat Strut”, “Sexy and Seventeen” and “Rock this Town” have become a part of the fabric of rock and roll. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has included “Rock this Town” as one of the 500 most important songs in rock.

    From the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine, to appearing on Saturday Night Live, to headlining the US Festival and touring with the Rolling Stones, Lee Rocker has seen and done it all.   In addition to the Stray Cats and the Rolling Stones, Rocker has toured and performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and John Fogerty.  In 1982 Rocker and his father Stanley Drucker, (classical clarinetist) both received Grammy nominations; this was something that has only occurred twice in the history of the Grammy Awards.  In 2012 Lee appeared on Broadway in the hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” and in 2014 he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. Rocker has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including being inducted to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and he is a recipient of the Visionary Artist Award by the City of Laguna Beach California. In his concert performances, Lee Rocker rocks every town and leaves every audience on their feet and cheering.

    Lee Rocker has been consistently touring, recording and performing around the globe since 1980 and has cultivated a fanatically loyal following of rockers, rebels and all types of music lovers.   He is known for making his upright double bass appear as if it were a lightweight instrument as he spins, throws it in the air, catches and plays it on stages throughout the world.  His concert show is a time for him to tell stories about his days on the road and in the music business for the last 35 years – including sharing stories about his adventures lugging the giant piece of equipment around.

  • ON THE MAP

    ON THE MAP tells the against-all-odds story of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 European Championship, which took place at a time when the Middle East was still reeling from the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the 1972 Olympic massacre at Munich, and the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight from Tel Aviv. Through the lens of sports, ON THE MAP presents a much broader story of how one team captured the heart of a nation amidst domestic turmoil and the global machinations of the Cold War.

    The film recounts how an underdog Israeli basketball team prevailed over a series of European basketball powers, including CSKA Moscow (known in the West as “Red Army”), a team that repeatedly refused to compete against Israeli competitors. Moments after this highly charged and historic win, Israeli-American basketball hero Tal Brody became an indelible part of a young country’s history when he famously said, “Israel is ON THE MAP, not just in sport, but in everything.”

    Told through the eyes of six American basketball players who joined Maccabi and helped the club defeat top teams from Spain, Italy and the Soviet Union, the film features interviews with basketball icon Bill Walton (who had a unique personal connection to Brody) and former NBA Commissioner David Stern.  ON THE MAP combines the pulse-pounding action of a high-stakes thriller with an incendiary political backdrop to deliver a film that will mesmerize basketball fans and captures the spirit of a nation triumphant against all odds.

    ON THE MAP also features incisive interviews with, among others, Michael Oren, Israel’s former Ambassador to the United States, and Natan Sharansky, a notable Israeli politician who spent years imprisoned in Soviet jails.

  • An Evening with Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls

    Join us for an intimate conversation, performances and Q&A

    Emily Saliers is one half of the Grammy Award-winning folk rock music duo Indigo Girls. Over the years, they have sold over fifteen million albums worldwide, as well as earning six Grammy nominations. In 1989, they were nominated for Best New Artist and took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

    Saliers plays acoustic and electric guitars as well as banjo, piano, mandolin, and ukulele. Saliers has written many of the Indigo Girls fan favorite songs and concert stand outs such as Closer To Fine, Get Out the Map, Least Complicated, Power of Two and Galileo to name a few.

    While Indigo Girls is still very much alive and well, Emily Saliers recorded and toured in support of her first solo album, Murmuration Nation in 2017.

  • Odie Lindsey

    Odie Lindsey’s story collection, We Come to Our Senses (W.W. Norton), was included on Best Of lists at Electric Literature and Military Times, and the New York Times Book Review noted that it “captures our culture now.” Lindsey’s fiction has appeared in Best American Short Stories, Iowa Review, Guernica, Fourteen Hills, Electric Literature, and in the anthology Forty Stories. He has received an NEA fellowship for veterans, a Tennessee Arts Commission fellowship in Literature, and a Tennessee Williams scholarship to the Sewanee Writers’ Conference. Lindsey’s essays have appeared in the Oxford American, Columbia, The Millions, and elsewhere. He holds an M.F.A. in writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, an M.A. in southern studies from the University of Mississippi, and a combat badge c/o the U.S. Army. He is Professor of the Practice at the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society, Vanderbilt University. Lindsey’s novel is forthcoming, also from W.W. Norton.

  • Michael Waters

    Michael Waters has published twelve books of poetry, most recently The Dean of Discipline (U Pittsburgh P, 2018) and Celestial Joyride (BOA Editions, 2016). Darling Vulgarity (2006) was a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize and Parthenopi: New and Selected Poems (2001) was a finalist for the Paterson Poetry Prize. He has co-edited several anthologies, including Reel Verse (Knopf, 2018), Contemporary American Poetry (Houghton Mifflin, 2006), and Perfect in Their Art (Southern Illinois UP, 2003). His poems have appeared in Poetry, American Poetry Review, Paris Review, Yale Review, Kenyon Review and The Progressive. A 2017 Guggenheim Fellow, he has been the recipient of five Pushcart Prizes, fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Fulbright Foundation, and NJ State Council on the Arts, and residency fellowships from Yaddo, MacDowell, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, St. James Cavalier Centre (Malta), Tyrone Guthrie Centre (Ireland), and Chateau de Lavigny (Switzerland). Waters is Professor of English at Monmouth University.
