Mary Byrne, CPA, MBA, is the University’s associate vice president for finance & controller, and began her tenure at Monmouth University in June 2014. The scope of Byrne’s responsibilities includes providing leadership and overseeing the student financial service/Bursar operations of the University; cashier’s office, collections and student loan accounting; payroll; accounts payable; financial reporting; tax compliance and federal and state tax filings; operating and endowed investments; treasury management; and general accounting. Byrne also serves as the primary liaison with the external auditors overseeing the institutions fiscal audits.

Prior to joining Monmouth, Byrne served as the controller at New Jersey City University, and worked in public accounting at Arthur Andersen and Grant Thornton, where she began her career as an auditor specializing in auditing nonprofit organizations, with a concentration in higher education institutions.

Byrne received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Saint Peter’s College (University) in 1999 and an MBA in Finance from Rutgers University-Newark in 2013. Byrne is a certified public accountant licensed in New Jersey.
