Survey for Graduating Seniors | Department of Mathematics

The first part of our interview looks at some of the learning that we hope our students develop over the course of their studies here, but not necessarily in a single course. Hence, we ask our graduating seniors now as their life after Monmouth approaches.

1. One of the goals of the department is that students develop an appreciation of the variety of mathematical areas and their interrelation. You've taken quite a range of mathematics courses here as part of your major. What relationships can you think of between the various subjects you've studied?*

2. Another goal is that students develop an awareness of some applications of mathematics to both science and human culture (broadly conceived).

A. Please give a concrete example of how mathematics is used in science.*

3. Did you feel there were enough applications in your mathematics courses? What applications of mathematics that you studied did you find most worthwhile or interesting?*

4. How confident do you feel approaching a problem different from one you've solved before?*

The next part of our interview looks at what were the high points of your mathematical studies at Monmouth, the low points, and how our program can be improved for future generations of students.

5. What were some of the best aspects of your mathematical experience at Monmouth? This could be anything from particular assignments in particular courses to how the courses are sequenced to the interactions among students, faculty, and staff.*
