Resources for Writers
Welcome to the Resources for Writers page! This page provides supplemental resources for writers on a variety of writing issues and strategies. The quick reference guide below will provide a description of those resources available under each heading. When you are ready to access a specific page, please choose from the menu on the left.
- Under Grammar and Punctuation, you will be able to access pages specific to either area:
- Under Punctuation, you will find many resources available on how to punctuate correctly.
- Under Grammar, you will find pages ranging from simple parts of speech to more complex grammatical elements.
- The menu listed as Other Resources contains helpful links gathered from other writing Web sites and includes grammar exercises for independent practice.
- Under Types of Writing, you will be able to access descriptions and examples of different types of writing styles and formats such as discipline-specific writing requirements, research papers, scientific reports, abstracts, resumes, and cover letters.
- Under Research and Documentation, you will find skills pages on how to prepare an annotated bibliography, how to summarize and paraphrase, and how to avoid plagiarism. Also, if you need help with APA, MLA or Chicago documentation styles, there are many resources available on all three documentation formats.
- The Effective Reading Strategies skills pages will provide you with helpful tips on how to read more effectively.
- Clicking on the Writing Center Menu will allow you to choose from a few different options. This is where you want to go if you are looking to schedule an appointment at the Writing Center, interested in finding out more about the Writing Assistants at the Writing Center or in becoming one yourself, or looking for information about the Writing Proficiency Examination (WPR).
