Golam Mathbor, Ph.D., professor in the School of Social Work, was invited to take part in a visiting professorship at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and began his one-year appointment on Oct. 1.
He joins the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences inside the Department of Social Administration and Justice (Social Work) and will participate in the professorship through Sept. 20, 2023.
“This offer is for eminent professors in the academic discipline, around the world, to join and assist the University of Malaya in their pursuit of achieving academic excellence. I am so honored for this prestigious opportunity,” Mathbor said.
During the professorship, Mathbor is not required to teach any courses, but he will be presenting guest lectures and tutorials for faculty members and doctoral students.
He is also expected to deliver public lectures, seminars, and workshops covering specific topics; be involved with collaborative projects such as research activities and academic writing which may lead to publication; provide consultation and take on an advisory role for the faculty; and act as a co-supervisor or consultant for post-graduate candidates.
A majority of Mathbor’s work will be virtual. However, he is required to visit the University twice during his year-long term. His first trip will be a two-week stay during the holiday break in December and his second, lasting three weeks during the summer months.
