Randall S. Abate, Rechnitz Family Urban Coast Institute Endowed Chair in Marine and Environmental Law and Policy and professor in the Department of Political Science and Sociology, delivered a panel presentation and served as a session chair at the 2018 Middle East Environmental Law Scholars’ Conference in Doha, Qatar Nov. 4-5.
On Nov. 5, Abate delivered a presentation titled “Teaching Climate Change, Ocean and Coastal Law, and Climate Justice” on a panel addressing climate change and ocean and coastal law. Later that afternoon, he also moderated a panel on environmental and natural resources law that featured panelists from Norway, Nigeria, and Qatar. Abate was one of only three invited speakers from North America at the conference.
Co-sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme and Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Law School in Doha, the conference featured approximately 60 environmental law scholars and practitioners from 17 countries addressing the conference theme of “Innovations for a Green Economy.”
