ADDICTION AND TRAUMA CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY

Monmouth University’s Department of Professional Counseling and the Monmouth County Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services, in cooperation with The Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and Monmouth Cares, Inc., will present the second annual clinical conference Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and Substance Use Disorders on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Monmouth University’s Woodrow Wilson Hall.

The Conference registration fee of $40 can be paid at the time of registration or by pre-registering athttps://www.monmouthresourcenet.org/registration/clinicalconf/. The fee includes *CEUs, continental breakfast, lunch, and valet parking in Lot 18. Please make check payable to Monmouth University.

This conference will focus on the issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its confluence with Substance Use Disorders, with emphasis on symptomatology, therapeutic interventions, and neuroscience. Additional emphasis will be given to the issues of returning veterans, first responders, and victims/witnesses of violent crime.

Although the conference is targeted to mental health therapists and addiction counselors, it is also open to the community and does cover a wide range of topics and treatment approaches, including a presentation on equine-assisted therapy, which is currently being used as a therapeutic approach with trauma victims.
