The story of what happened after his accidental death– of how people without the legal protections of marriage can find themselves completely shut out opens a window onto the issue of marriage equality like no speech or lecture ever will.     In Joe & Bil’s program, “When the Gays Move Into Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Joe & Bil explore the realities and human dimensions of living in a world of heterosexual privilege. Drawing from their own lives, their experiences as fraternity men and student affairs professionals, their family experiences, and the dynamics of their own relationship, Joe & Bil present this difficult topic in a non-threatening, humorous way.

    Part of the Artful Explorations of Gender Series – a year-long engagement in a range of work across the arts that examines the contemporary and historical meanings and boundaries of gender, the persistence of gender inequalities locally and globally, and the role of art and artists in movements for gender justice.

  • WOMEN IN THE WORLD WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH FILM FESTIVAL

    Now in its 8th year, Women In Media – Newark’s international Women’s History Month Film Festival continues to educate about, and advocate for global issues facing women. “Women In the World,” the theme of the 2017 film fest, will focus on independent films that illustrate the resilience and determination of women worldwide to triumph over adversity and will include a panel of speakers on this topic. This will be the first year that this exciting, free film festival will be shared with Monmouth University’s audience.

    Films screened during the event include SOLD – a narrative, feature film adaptation of the globally acclaimed novel by Patricia McCormick. Based on true stories, SOLD, is the story of Lakshmi who journeys
    from a pastoral, rural village in Nepal to a gritty brothel/prison
    called Happiness House in Kolkata, India.

    SOLD is directed by Academy and Emmy award-winner, Jeffrey D. Brown,
    Executive Produced by two time Academy Award winner, Emma Thompson,
    Produced by Jane Charles, Co-Produced by Katie Mustard and Written by
    Joseph Kwong and Jeffrey D. Brown.
