Monmouth University held its thirteenth annual Global Understanding Convention. The campus-wide week of events centered around a theme of "Toward Global Equality: Education, Dignity, Prosperity," and featured more than fifty lectures, panels, films, and exhibits committed to raising public awareness about the ways communities and persons around the world and nationally continue to struggle with the effects of social inequality and injustice, especially as these pertain to issues of education and the pursuit of social well-being.

This year’s events spanned a range of genres—from lectures and public talks to classroom colloquia and art installations. Among other voices, we heard from grassroots organizations dedicated to reducing violence in our daily lives, educators who teach on the structural violence of the food industry, and an interfaith panel on non-violence and anti-violence across religious traditions. We also presented a panel on careers in non-profit work that is dedicated to the cause of social justice.
