FIRST YEAR SEMINAR COURSE OFFERING

The Ancient World in Contemporary Imagination

Professor: J. Li

Term: Fall

Year: 2012

Course Code: FY-101-HS01

From national histories to museum installations to the Super Bowl half time show, the ancient world continues to play a role in contemporary society. These images and narratives of the past are creations that often reveal more about our present than our understanding of the past. This course examines how scholarly and popular visions of the ancient past are created, transmitted and used in contempory society from politics to popular culture.
