Phil Murphy on Earth Day <a href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/governor\/news\/news\/562021\/approved\/20210422a.shtml\">released a draft<\/a> of the state\u2019s first Climate Change Resilience Strategy outlining recommendations to guide state and local government efforts to protect vulnerable communities, infrastructure, businesses, and the environment from the devastating effects of climate change. The New Jersey Coastal Resilience Collaborative (NJCRC), a partnership of stakeholders and interested parties from all sectors that is co-chaired by UCI Director Tony MacDonald, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2021\/05\/NJCRC-comments-on-the-Draft-Climate-Change-Resilience-Strategy.pdf\">submitted a document with its comments<\/a> on the strategy to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) on May 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the document\u2019s introductory message, UCI Associate Director Thomas Herrington noted, \u201cWe applaud the thoughtfulness that has gone into the Climate Change Resilience Strategy and imbedded Coastal Resilience Plan and appreciate the [NJDEP Climate and Flood Resilience] Program\u2019s consideration and integration of many of the comments the NJCRC provided in response to the original vision of the Strategy and Plan.\u201d Work on the Coastal Resilience Plan element of the strategy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/newsrel\/2018\/18_0086.htm\">was first launched<\/a> in the October 2018 New Jersey Coastal Resilience Summit held at Monmouth University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/dep\/climatechange\/resilience-strategy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View the New Jersey Climate Change Resilience Strategy in its entirety or learn more about public engagement opportunities.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Jersey Gov.
