Funding is available to support projects proposed by students of all disciplines with a faculty mentor or by faculty members with students conducting research under their supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Grants\u00a0are provided for research in\u00a0natural and social sciences, art and humanities, economics, and public policy involving faculty and students from any school or department at Monmouth University. Past grants have supported projects ranging from the creation of a website dedicated to eco-friendly local businesses to the design of a disaster search and rescue training video game.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals should address issues that advance the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.monmouth.edu\/OfficesServices\/MarineScienceFundingOpportunities\/Pages\/Mission-and-Goals.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UCI&#8217;s mission and goals<\/a>.\u00a0The UCI seeks to fund research projects on topics including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-170x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-170x300.png 170w, https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-280x493.png 280w, https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-320x564.png 320w, https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-360x634.png 360w, https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small-85x150.png 85w, https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/uci\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2019\/04\/UCI-marine-life-small.png 412w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/>Assessing \u00a0and communicating coastal community vulnerability and risk<\/li>\n<li>The social and economic impact of climate change on communities<\/li>\n<li>The \u201cblue\u201d coastal and ocean economy<\/li>\n<li>Coastal and ocean ecosystem protection, restoration and management<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing community resilience and \u00a0adaptation planning in the face of sea level rise and coastal storms<\/li>\n<li>Furthering U.N. sustainability goals at the international, national and local levels<\/li>\n<li>Coastal community engagement and capacity building to address climate change<\/li>\n<li>Enhancing consideration for social justice and equity considerations in a changing climate<\/li>\n<li>Coastal and ocean law and policy<\/li>\n<li>Marine and environmental \u00a0arts and humanities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funding is available for students at University research student rates for up to 10 weeks of work, capped at $2,860 per student. A stipend of $800 is available for faculty mentors.<\/p>\n<p>Students must provide a final report or product summarizing their research at the end of the 10<sup>th<\/sup> week.
