Monmouth Professor Awarded Prestigious Guggenheim Prize

Michael WatersWEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (April 10, 2017) — Monmouth University Professor of English Michael Waters has been awarded a prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship. He is one of 173 scholars, artists and scientists selected from almost 3,000 applicants in the foundation’s 93rd annual competition. The fellows are chosen “on the basis of prior achievement and exceptional promise.”

A renowned poet, Waters’ latest work, Celestial Joyride, was published last year. Reviewing the book in the San Antonio Express News, critic Robert Bonazzi declared that “Waters stands among the best American poets writing today.”

Since its establishment 92 years ago, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has presented $350 million in fellowships to more than 18,000 individuals. http://www.gf.org/fellows/all-fellows/michael-waters/
