Monmouth University Presents “Israel in a Changing Middle East: An Intelligence Perspective” on October 30

Monmouth University’s Jewish Cultural Studies Program presents “Israel in a Changing Middle East: An Intelligence Perspective,” co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County, on October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Wilson Auditorium. The lecture by Avi Melamed, a former Israeli senior official on Arab affairs, is free and open to the public.

Melamed is an independent Middle East strategic intelligence analyst and lecturer specializing in the current affairs of the Arab and Muslim world, as well as their impact on Israel and the region. He has recently been appointed the Fellow of Intelligence and Middle East Affairs for the Eisenhower Institute in Washington D.C. He spent almost thirty years living in Arab cities and communities throughout the region, often in high-risk positions at sensitive times.  He held various intelligence and counterterrorism field positions in delicate areas on behalf of the Israeli Defense Forces, the Israeli government, and Israeli security and intelligence services including the Mossad, Shabak and 8200.

Melamed is the founder and creator of Feenjan-Israel speaks Arabic, a nonprofit initiative that presents contemporary Israeli society and culture to the Arab world in Arabic, and serves as an online platform for Israelis and Arabs to discover and discuss issues of common interest. He has written two books,  Separate and Unequal – Israel’s rule in East Jerusalem,  published by Harvard University Press, and Ubrusi, A Novel.

Monmouth University appreciates the generosity of a group of Hollywood Golf Club members who provide support for the Jewish Cultural Studies Program.
