The Department of Psychology Celebrates 30 Years of Undergraduate Research at Monmouth University

Monmouth University’s Department of Psychology is celebrating 30 years of undergraduate psychology research with its 60th semi-annual undergraduate research conference, making it one of the longest running undergraduate psychology conferences in the nation. The conference will take place on April 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Wilson Auditorium and in the Great Hall of Monmouth University’s Woodrow Wilson Hall. The presentations are the culmination of students’ senior thesis projects, as well as internships completed during the Spring 2014 semester.

The conference will feature thirty-four paper and twenty poster presentations of student research projects. Students will also present their internship experiences in twelve poster presentations and three paper presentations. The department will present awards for best paper and best poster presentation, as well as a department award recognizing overall student excellence. In total, approximately fifty undergraduates will present during the conference, and over 100 students, parents, and alumni are expected to attend.

Research Topics include the following:

– Do attractive people get asked for help more often?

– Do religious symbols influence cheating behavior?

– How does stress influence willingness to criticize your relationship partner?

– What influences men and women to volunteer?

– Do print advertisements influence perceptions of promiscuity in professional athletes?

– Is too much choice in online dating harmful?

Internship Placement Presentations will focus on:

– The Six Flags Course Experience

– Therapeutic Horseback Riding

– Helping in a Holistic Therapy Center for Women with Cancer
