President Obama’s Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco Visited Monmouth University on March 25

Monmouth University students participated in a poetry workshop with President Obama’s Inaugural Poet Richard Blanco on March 25. After the workshop, Blanco gave a reading as part of Monmouth University’s Visiting Writers Series. In 2013, Blanco was chosen to serve as the fifth inaugural poet of the United States, following in the footsteps of such great writers as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou. Blanco performed One Today, an original poem he wrote for the occasion, becoming the youngest, as well as the first Latino, immigrant, and openly gay writer to be given the honor.
