Monmouth University is proud to welcome to campus the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet®. Oxfam, a national non-profit organization, raises awareness on international hunger among the campus and local communities by hosting "hunger" banquets. The event, free and open to the public, will be held on May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in Magill Commons Club Dining Room.  Attendees are encouraged to bring one canned good for donation to local food bank.  Participants can register online at hungerbanquet.eventzilla.net.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. Parking for attendees will be available in Lots 11 and 12. The entrance to these two lots is off of Norwood Avenue in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

Guests draw tickets at random that assign them to a high, middle, or low-income tier, based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty. Each income level receives a corresponding meal-filling and nutritious or sparse and simple. When the meal is done, guests are invited to share their thoughts and take action. After an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet event, few participants leave with full stomachs, but all possess a greater understanding of hunger and poverty-and are motivated to do something to help.

Come be a part of Oxfam Hunger Banquet and learn about how you can help raise awareness about hunger, poverty, and injustice. The event will host speakers from various local nonprofit organizations including Ryan Timmons, restaurant manager of the Soul Kitchen, and Carlos A. Rodriguez, executive director of the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

The event is being organized by a graduate class of students led by Dr. Deanna Shoemaker, communication professor at Monmouth University.
