MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY MAGAZINE HONORED BY NJ CHAPTER OF THE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS

Monmouth University Magazine was honored by the New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (NJSPJ) as part of its annual Excellence in Journalism contest in June 2013.

“Life Lessons from a Horseshoe Crab,” which was written by Monmouth University Magazine‘s Assistant Editor Heather Mistretta and appeared in the Fall 2012 issue, was awarded third place in the category of Magazine – Feature & Profile Writing.

The cover story chronicled scientist, artist, and New Jersey native Chris Wojcik ’91 and his creation of a 48-foot long artificial reef that was later submerged off the coast of Point Pleasant.

“The contest proves once again that tough, concise, honest, brave, and passionate journalism is still happening on a daily basis in the Garden State,” wrote the NJSPJ.

The New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists exists as a voluntary affiliate of the national organization Society of Professional Journalists, which was founded in 1909. It works to promote and support the ethical practice of journalism and to improve conditions in the journalistic community in New Jersey. It is the only organization in New Jersey that is dedicated to the interests of all journalists and people in related fields, including reporters, editors, producers, public information officers, and freelancers; publication, radio, television, and cable owners; and anyone else who works to disseminate information.
