MONMOUTH UNIVERSITY PARTNERS WITH UMDNJ

Monmouth University announced that it has signed an articulation agreement with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP) to allow eligible Monmouth University students to enter the master’s program in Clinical Trial Sciences at UMDNJ-SHRP.

The agreement between UMDNJ-SHRP and Monmouth University provides admission for qualified Monmouth University students majoring in biology, chemistry, or mathematics to attend UMDNJ-SHRP’s MS program in Clinical Trial Sciences. The program will include four years of undergraduate education at Monmouth University followed by two to three years of education at UMDNJ leading to an MS degree.

The specialized track in Clinical Trial Sciences teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to become a clinical research associate or clinical research coordinator. These positions are necessary to manage the growing number of clinical drug trials conducted both in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Michael Palladino, dean of Monmouth University’s School of Science, explained: “Because of the complexities of the regulatory processes required for Food and Drug Administration review and approval of new drugs and medical devices, clinical trial professionals are in high-demand in the biopharmaceutical industry in NJ and across the country. The clinical trial sciences program at UMDNJ-SHRP offers specialized tracks in management and recruitment sciences, informatics, regulatory affairs, and drug safety. These programs will be of interest to biology, chemistry, and mathematics majors at Monmouth University, and we are very pleased to partner with UMDNJ-SHRP to offer pathways for our students to pursue career opportunities in clinical trials and related areas.

Dr. Julie O’Sullivan Maillet, interim dean of UMDNJ-SHRP, added: “We are excited for Monmouth students to be able to take one or two courses online with UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions while undergraduates, and then possibility decide to become clinical research professionals. It is a great opportunity for both schools.”

The UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions will be transferred to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, effective July 1, 2013. The resulting integrated organization builds on the rich histories, talent, and expertise of both institutions and establishes a milestone that begins a promising era for New Jersey.

The Monmouth University School of Science offers undergraduate degree programs in biology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, and software engineering and MS graduate programs in computer science and software engineering.
