What is the objective of the strategic planning process?

The goal of the strategic planning process is to develop a comprehensive, inclusive, and collaborative plan that will lead Monmouth University to new heights of excellence across all areas of the campus, and build on the tremendous strides the University has made in recent years.

The outcomes of the process will both guide the path of our shared future and help identify metrics to judge our success. Together we will craft a portfolio of programs that match our faculty research and teaching passions with student interest and market demand. The result will be a set of actionable measures to achieve our aspirations for our students and as an institution of higher education.

How long will the strategic planning process take?

The strategic planning process will span 10 months. The process began in December 2013, with the appointment of a Steering Committee and three thematically oriented subcommittees focused on 1) Personalized Learning Experience, 2) Program Relevance, and 3) Global and Cultural Awareness.

The 2014 spring semester will be focused on information gathering, establishing metrics, and community feedback. Initial reports will be drafted and reviewed in May and June, with time allotted for reflection and refinement over the summer. First drafts of the strategic plan will be circulated in September and endorsed in October.

Once adopted by the Monmouth University community and its governing Board of Trustees, the strategic plan will help define programmatic and funding priorities for the next decade and beyond.

How can I be involved in the strategic planning process?

Strategic planning is a journey we will take together as a campus community. Your involvement is critical to an open, honest, and inclusive evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses. The strategic planning process will offer many ways for all members of Monmouth University to contribute direct feedback and ideas to the process.

Your participation in online surveys, town hall meetings, and departmental discussions is critical to a successful outcome to the planning process. The process will involve faculty members, administrators, staff, and students. The overall success of the strategic planning process will depend on your input.

Can I submit comments about the strategic plan or the planning process?

All members of the Monmouth University community are actively encouraged to submit comments, feedback, and suggestions to help ensure the successful outcome of the strategic planning process. Will my feedback be anonymous?

Feedback and comments sent directly to members of the Steering Committee, or subcommittees, will be held in strict confidence but may not always be anonymous.

Similarly, although polling and survey information may offer opportunities for anonymous feedback, complete anonymity may not always be possible. To ensure transparency throughout the strategic planning process, the distinctions between opportunities for confidential, versus anonymous, feedback and commentary will be disclosed clearly.

Who else is involved?

President Grey J. Dimenna, the Board of Trustees, and members of the president’s cabinet have engaged the aid of two outside facilitators with extensive experience crafting and implementing strategic plans.

Margaret F. Plympton, Ed.D., former vice president for finance and administration at Lehigh University, and Hannah Stewart-Gambino, Ph.D., dean of Lafayette College, will provide overarching advice to guide the Steering Committee in organizing the strategic planning process. They will also advise on best practices for gathering and analyzing information from diverse campus areas to advance the successful implementation of the strategic planning process.
