What is The Coming Home Project?<\/h2>\n

The Coming Home Project is an effort by the School of Social Work at Monmouth University to recognize and prepare social work students and community practitioners to meet the needs of returning career, reservist, and National Guard military personnel and their families. While remaining invested in social work\u2019s historic commitment to work for peace, we are also cognizant of our duty to serve vulnerable populations, such as persons who have experienced combat either directly or indirectly.<\/p>\n

NJ Post 9\/11-era Veteran Community Reintegration Study<\/h2>\n

Since the events of September 11th, 2001 and the start of the Global War on Terror, it is estimated by the Department of Veteran Affairs that over 50,000 Post 9\/11-era veterans have come home to New Jersey after the end of their service. To date, there has been no comprehensive study of the community reintegration needs of this cohort of veterans currently living in New Jersey<\/em><\/strong>, often leaving policy makers and veteran servicing non-profits and agencies without data to make informed efforts to address the needs of Post 9\/11-era veterans as they return home.<\/p>\n

The purpose of this survey is to close these information gaps. The results of this survey will identify the needs, and potential barriers, of Post 9\/11-era veterans in New Jersey coming home and successfully reintegrating into their communities.<\/p>\n

We will use the data from survey to gather information to develop new services, policies, and programs to help increase the likelihood of positive community reintegration experiences for Post 9\/11-era veterans throughout the state.<\/p>\n
