Welcome to Practicum Education at the Monmouth University School of Social Work. We are excited to support you on this important step in your social work journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practicum is where classroom learning meets real-world experience, allowing you to develop your skills, grow as a professional, and make a meaningful impact in the communities you serve. Our team is here to guide you through the process, ensuring you find a placement that aligns with your goals and prepares you for the next stage of your career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Monmouth, we take a personalized, hands-on approach to practicum education. Students work closely with a practicum advisor to identify placements that align with their goals, while also considering the realities of their schedules and responsibilities. Our focus is on providing guidance, strong agency partnerships, and a structured process that supports student success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practicum Overview <\/h2>\n\n\n

Our Social Work practicum education program provides students with real-world experience that prepares them for successful careers in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n

BSW Practicum<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

The BSW practicum is designed to build foundational social work skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Junior Year:<\/strong> Students complete a 100-hour practicum, engaging in tasks like interviewing, case management, and prevention education. Students typically intern one full day per week, gaining experience in diverse practice settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Senior Year:<\/strong> Students complete a 400-hour practicum placement across two semesters, developing advanced skills in counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy. This experience prepares students for entry-level social work positions and Advanced Standing MSW programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

    MSW Practicum<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

    The MSW practicum builds on the BSW foundation, offering students the opportunity to specialize and deepen their expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Generalist Year:<\/strong> Students participate in practicum for about 14 hours per week, usually spread over two full days each week for two semesters, for a minimum of 400 total hours. This experience is designed to build essential social work skills across individual, group, and community settings, with a focus on assessment, intervention, and advocacy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Concentration Year:<\/strong> Second year students complete approximately 18 hours per week in practicum, typically across three days per week over two semesters, totaling a minimum of 500 hours. Building on their foundational skills, students move toward more independent practice. Students will choose to specialize in one of two areas:\n

      • Clinical Practice with Families and Children (CPFC)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Global and Community Practice (GCP)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The MSW practicum provides students with the skills, professional connections, and practical experience necessary to excel in diverse social work settings.<\/p>\n\n\n
