The Buddy Program service is now provided through a local LGBT+ Community Center- QSpot in Asbury Park, NJ- who graciously agreed to maintain this program. The Buddy Program provides visits to homebound, hospitalized, or socially isolated LGBT elders. These are social visits, and the purpose is to provide companionship.
What The Buddy Program Does
- The program is dedicated to linking isolated or lonely LGBT older adults with trained volunteers to enhance the older adult’s social support system.
- The Buddy Program’s companions offer friendly and compassionate one on one time with an LGBT older adult in an environment in which they are most comfortable.
Who Are The Buddies?
- Volunteers may be college students, professionals, or retirees, each trained in ethics and boundaries.
- Each volunteer is willing and able to spend up to four hours a week with their LGBT older adult buddy.
A 3-hour training is required to volunteer as a buddy. If you are interested in becoming a buddy volunteer please contact QSpot directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 732-455-3373.
