Faculty Research Mentors and Projects<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Monmouth University School of Science Summer Research Program (SRP) is a 12-week research experience for students to work on collaborative research projects under the supervision of School of Science faculty. The 2026 program starts on Monday, May 18, and ends on Friday, August 5. The opening reception will also take place on May 19. Students will present their work at the Summer Research Program Symposium, which will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n

Research Projects<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n

In 2026, School of Science Summer Research Program participants have the opportunity to carry out exciting original research in collaboration with faculty from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Computer Science and Software Engineering, and Mathematics, as well as with the Urban Coast Institute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students in the program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • work as paid student research assistants for the summer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • participate in a student-faculty collaborative research team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • gain invaluable research experience that looks attractive to future employers and to graduate and professional school programs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • present research at a symposium.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The program is open to undergraduate students. A limited number of openings may be available to incoming first-year Monmouth students as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

    2013 Summer Research Program (School of Science-SRP) May 20 \u2013 August 15, 2013 * The Monmouth University School of Science-SRP is a 12-week research experience for students to work on collaborative research projects under the supervision of School of Science faculty and staff. Program Highlights for Students Employment as a paid student researcher for the summer\u00a0\u00a0 Potential to earn college-credits for research experience Opportunity to be a researcher in a student-faculty collaborative research team Gain research experience that is invaluable for future employment in industry and for entry into graduate and professional school programs Weekly lunches and social events for students to interact with other student-researchers and faculty members. Present research at an informal symposium Seminars on topics such as career development, science ethics, and graduate school. * Flexible starting and ending dates are available. \u00a0 Eligibility The program is open to undergraduate or M.S.-level graduate students. A limited number of openings are available for selected high school students and incoming first-year students at Monmouth University.\u00a0 Priority acceptance is given to Monmouth University students. \u00a0 Most faculty research mentors who will work with high school students will be accepting rising seniors only. PLEASE NOTE: Applications for the Summer Research Program are reviewed on a competitive basis. For the 2012 program, approximately 28% of applicants were accepted to participate. Research Projects School of Science-SRP participants will have the opportunity to carry out exciting original research in the following areas: Biology\u2014cell biology, cancer biology, molecular biology, ecology, entomology,\u00a0marine and environmental biology, reproductive biology Chemistry, Medical Technology, and Physics\u2014bioorganic chemistry, green synthetic chemistry, environmental analytical chemistry, nanotechnology and drug delivery Computer Science\u2014computer networks, databases, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, programming Mathematics\u2014statistical applications of mathematics Software Engineering\u2014collaborative work with the Rapid Response Institute Rapid Response Institute\u2014homeland defense and emergency preparedness for natural and man-made disasters Urban Coast Institute\u2014watershed management, coastal ecosystems, coastal law and policy, and other areas The Application Process Applications for the 2013 Summer Research Program are no longer being accepted. [The deadline was March 1, at 5:00 p.m].
