Cornelius Minor is a Brooklyn-based educator and part-time Pok\u00e9mon trainer. He works with teachers, school leaders, and community-based organizations to support educator growth in cities (and sometimes villages) across the globe. His latest book, “We Got This”, explores how the work of creating more equitable school spaces is embedded in our everyday choices\u2014specifically in the choice to really listen to kids. Building on the understanding that literacy impacts all learning, Minor works across all subject areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minor has been featured in Education Week<\/em>, Brooklyn Magazine<\/em>, and Learning for Justice <\/em>magazine. He has partnered with the New York City Department of Education, the National Council for Teachers of English, the National Principals Association, the American Federation of Teachers, and Scholastic. “Out of Print”, a documentary featuring Minor, made its way around the film festival circuit, and he has been a featured speaker at conferences all over the world. He is a dedicated hip-hop fan, and on some evenings, you can find him online saving the universe with his PlayStation or on paper saving the realm in Dungeons & Dragons.<\/p>\n\n\n\nAlong with his partner and wife, Kass Minor, he has established The Minor Collective, a community-based movement designed to foster sustainable change in schools. Whether working with educators and kids in Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York City, or across Vermont, Colorado, or Mississippi, Minor uses his love for technology, literature, and culture to bring communities together. As a teacher, Minor draws not only on his years teaching middle school in the Bronx and Brooklyn, but also on time spent skateboarding, shooting hoops, and working with young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School of Education Academies Superintendents’ Academy The purpose of the Superintendents’ Academy is to create a forum for dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences. Using the University as a catalyst, the academy will provide professional growth opportunities for superintendents and central office personnel. Additionally, it will create a network of support for colleagues and establish a collaborative relationship with the University and its resources. The Academy will hold four workshops a year with topics on timely issues directly related to matters of interest to educational administrators. Principals’ Academy The purpose of the Principals’ Academy is to create a forum for dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences. Using the university as a catalyst, the academy will provide professional growth opportunities for principals and assistant principals that will focus on dynamic leadership that promotes reflective practice and affects teacher and student learning. Additionally, it will create a network of support for colleagues and establish a collaborative relationship with the university, university faculty, and its resources. The Academy will hold four workshops a year with topics on timely issues directly related to matters of interest to educational administrators. Special Services Academy The purpose of the Special Services Academy is to create an opportunity for dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences for Directors of Special Services, Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultants, School Psychologists, School Social Workers, and Speech Language Specialists. Through collaboration with university administrators and faculty, the academy will provide professional learning communities that offer growth opportunities for members through sessions which focus on promoting reflective practice and positively impacting student and teacher learning. A network of support and resources for members will be established for developing new experiences.
