Educational Counseling Graduate Programs

The Department of Educational Counseling prepares students for a rewarding career as a professional school counselor, college counselor, or student affairs professional. When you choose one of Monmouth University’s nationally accredited Educational Counseling graduate programs, you will find an inclusive program rooted in social justice and diversity, along with small class sizes (10-15 students), accomplished faculty, and ample opportunities for experiential learning.

Our flexible program structure offers hybrid courses and is designed to meet the needs of adult learners. You will also have access to our dedicated placement coordinator, who works with students to secure personalized site placements in the field through our strong relationships with school districts and colleges.
We strive to provide students with an exceptional and transformative educational experience.

Monmouth University offers excellence in a variety of counseling degree and endorsement options:

  • M.S.Ed. in School Counseling: A 60-credit curriculum that focuses on the P-12 preparation of professional school counselors. School counseling students who successfully complete the program will receive a New Jersey Department of Education Certificate for School Counseling, as well as all of the educational credit requirements to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and work in various counseling settings.
  • M.S.Ed. in Student Affairs and College Counseling: A 60-credit curriculum that focuses on preparing professional student affairs and college counselors for jobs in higher education. Students who successfully complete the program will be able to apply for positions at the college and university levels, as well as all of the educational credit requirements to become a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and work in various counseling settings.
  • Graduate Endorsement: Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC): For candidates who want to be certified as student assistance coordinators. SACs work with students in many New Jersey school districts to address substance abuse issues, social and emotional issues, and behavioral problems. Those who complete this endorsement program will meet the New Jersey course requirements for certification as a SAC. For more information, please contact Francine Swift.
  • Post-Master’s Endorsement: Director of School Counseling Services: For students interested in becoming student services administrators. These individuals will meet New Jersey requirements for certification once they complete the program along with three years of service as a school counselor.

Educational Counseling students may also complete the required coursework required for LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) licensure through the program.
Application deadlines for this program are July 15 for Fall and December 1 for Spring. View Program Application Requirements.
