If it is possible to do so safely, exit the building immediately when you become aware of an incident, move away from the immediate path of danger, and take the following steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notify anyone you encounter to exit the building immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evacuate to a safe area away from the danger and take protective cover. Stay there until assistance arrives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call the Monmouth University Police Department at<br>732-571-4444 or dial 911. Provide each dispatcher with the following information:<br>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location of the incident (be as specific as possible).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of shooters (if known).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of weapons (if known).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type of weapons (e.g., handgun, rifle) if known.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identification or description of shooter(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of persons who may be involved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your exact location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Injuries to anyone, if known.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take cover. Individuals not immediately impacted by the situation should take protective cover and stay away from windows and doors until notified otherwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are directly involved in an incident and exiting the building is not possible, the following actions are recommended:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the nearest room or office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close and lock or barricade the door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn off the lights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek protective cover.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep quiet and act as if no one is in the room.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not answer the door.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notify the Monmouth University Police Department at 732-571-4444 or dial 911 if it is safe to do so. Keep cell phones on vibrate. Provide each dispatcher with the following information:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location of the incident (be as specific as possible).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of shooters (if known).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of weapons (if known).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type of weapons (e.g., handgun, rifle) if known.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identification or description of shooter(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Number of persons who may be involved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your exact location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Injuries to anyone, if known.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a last resort, if unable to run or hide, you must fight back using whatever objects are available.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wait for police to assist you out of the building.<\/strong><br><br>The Monmouth University Police Department (MUPD), along with surrounding municipal departments, are trained and equipped to respond to an emergency incident of this nature. During the initial phase of the incident, the MUPD will evaluate the situation to determine the best course of action to ensure the safety of the members of the University community. The MUPD will convey to the members of the University community information regarding the incident.<br><br>The MUPD provides an informational course for the University community in response to active shooter situations throughout the year.
