The following information is an abridged version of the style and formatting guidelines found in the Publication Manual of the MLA Handbook<\/em>, 9th ed. (2021). This sheet is to serve as a ready reference; more in-depth descriptions can be found in the handbook.<\/p>\n\n\n

General Format<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n
    \n
  • Place the Works Cited at the end of your paper in continuous pagination.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Arrange entries alphabetically by the first word of each entry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Center the title \u201cWorks Cited.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Double-space the entire page, including the entries and the title.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Align the first line of a citation flush with the left margin; subsequent lines are indented one-half inch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

    A book with one author<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

    • Author\u2019s last name, Author\u2019s first name. Title<\/em>. Publisher, Publication Year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

      A book with two authors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n

      • Author 1\u2019s last name, Author 1\u2019s first name and Author 2\u2019s first name Author 2\u2019s last name. Title<\/em>. Publisher, Publication Year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

        A book with three or more authors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n
