{"id":3657,"date":"2022-03-30T09:22:26","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T13:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/reslife\/?page_id=3657"},"modified":"2026-03-13T11:32:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T15:32:13","slug":"top-10-questions-to-ask-about-summer-housing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/reslife\/top-10-questions-to-ask-about-summer-housing\/","title":{"rendered":"Frequently Asked Questions About Summer Housing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center is-style-big-body has-grey-background-background-color has-background\">Interested in living in Summer Housing? <a href=\"https:\/\/etcentral.monmouth.edu\/#\/form\/379\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Submit an application!<\/a><br><br>*<strong><em>Single housing options are not provided for any of the Summer sessions.<\/em><\/strong> <strong>All assignments are in a double occupancy<\/strong>*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living on campus during the summer is an amazing experience!&nbsp; Summer Housing is different from the Fall and Spring semesters, so below are the most frequently asked questions and answers about Summer Housing at Monmouth University. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What type of housing is available?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are two building types offered for Summer School!\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">Suite Style Residence Hall &#8211; <\/span><strong>Spruce Hall<\/strong> &#8211; $304\/week\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 students per room<span style=\"color: initial\"><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Communal <span style=\"color: initial\">Kitchen on the Lower Floor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">On-campus Apartments &#8211;<\/span> <strong>Maplewood Hall <\/strong>&#8211; $379\/week\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">2 students per room<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">Kitchen in each apartment <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">Apartments are designated for students who have earned 60 or more credits <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Will I have a roommate?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yes, all summer housing assignments are double occupancy, so you will have a roommate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Can I choose my building for the summer?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Office of Residential Life will make every attempt to accommodate students\u2019 housing requests, but room assignments will be made based on availability.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>How am I assigned a roommate? Can I choose my roommate?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students must complete a Summer Housing Application.&nbsp; Once complete, the Office of Residential Life will create a room assignment based on room availability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a student has a friend that they want to live with instead of being randomly assigned, they may indicate their preferred roommate\u2019s name on their application.&nbsp; Both students must indicate the other student\u2019s name on their application or they will not be paired up as roommates.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applications are received on an ongoing basis.&nbsp; The Office of Residential Life will make every attempt to accommodate roommate requests based on space availability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Are the residence halls air-conditioned?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All summer residence halls and apartments are air-conditioned!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Can we bring our own refrigerator? Microwave? Coffeemaker?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students in the Residence Halls are permitted to bring a refrigerator no more than 1.6 amps or 3.2 cubic feet in size.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keurigs and other single-serve K-cup-style coffee<span style=\"color: initial\"> makers are permitted<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: initial\">Microwaves and all other appliances are not permitted in the residence halls.&nbsp; There is a microwave located in the lobby\/lounges of each residence hall for students to use.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Microwaves and other kitchen appliances are permitted only in the apartments. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For a full list of permitted and prohibited items, please check the Residential Life website.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Suite-Style Addition: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/reslife\/housing-information\/to-bring-or-not-to-bring-your-residence-hall-shopping-list\/\">Things To Bring and Not Bring<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apartment Addition:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monmouth.edu\/reslife\/housing-information\/to-bring-or-not-to-bring-apartment-edition\/\">Things To Bring and Not Bring<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Who is available to assist me when I\u2019m on campus?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Office of Residential Life hires and trains undergraduate students to serve as Resident Assistants (RAs) in the halls.&nbsp; This staff member is available to assist students in their transition to living on campus and helps ensure the safety of all residents.&nbsp; There is a staff member available 24 hours a day\/7 days a week\/365 days a year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Can I bring a car to campus?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Yes! You are permitted to park on the Residential side of campus from the beginning of May through mid-August.&nbsp; Some lots on the academic main campus will still be restricted, but the residential parking lots near the residence halls will be waived. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will need to provide your car information on your housing contract.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"8\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What dining locations are open? Is there a meal plan?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gourmet Dining will have various locations open during the week while the University is open.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gourmet Dining will send out information on summer operational hours and availability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>When will I find out where I am living?
